A small steel store

8ft containers are built new for storage and are not used for shipping. With a footprint of about 57 square feet they fit a standard parking space, a side yard or the corner of a job site. They hold tools, bikes, garden equipment, seasonal stock or archive boxes, and they lock like a full size container.

Because they are lighter, many suppliers deliver them with a small tilt bed or a truck with a crane, which helps on tight sites. If you need more room, compare the 10ft container. More detail on 8ft shipping containers.

Check before you pay

Check the door seals and the locking mechanism, and ask whether a lock box is fitted. Ask about the floor, which is steel or plywood depending on the builder, and whether the container has forklift pockets for easy moving.
