What one-trip means

A one-trip container was built in a factory, mostly in China, loaded with cargo once for the voyage to the US and then sold. It arrives with factory paint, a clean marine plywood floor and doors that close easily. Small scuffs from loading are normal.

One-trip is the right grade when the container will be seen every day, turned into an office or studio, or should last 25 years or more with basic upkeep. For extra headroom look at the 20ft high cube new. If looks matter less than budget, a cargo worthy 20ft costs about half.

A tilt bed truck needs about 60 feet of straight clearance to slide a 20ft container off. Site access, ground conditions and a crane, if needed, change the price. Worked examples are on shipping container transport cost.

Check before you pay

Ask for the manufacturing date on the CSC plate on the door; one-trip units are usually less than two years old. Check the paint and corners for damage from transport and lifting, open and close both doors, and look at the floor for stains from the first load. If you need a specific color, say so up front: colors other than the stock color usually cost extra and take longer.
